Raymond Joseph Goniwiecha

Mr. Raymond J. Goniwiecha of Ruth, founder of Ruth Drain Tile Inc. in Ruth, passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a brief illness. He was born on December 17, 1919 in Detroit to the late John and Catherine (Pyrek) Goniwiecha. He married Margaret (Booms) Voorheis on February 16, 1965 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. Raymond was the founder of Ruth Drain Tile Inc. in Ruth and celebrated 65 years of business with concrete and tile. He was a life long member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Ray is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Goniwiecha of Ruth; seven children, Timothy Voorheis and his wife, Elizabeth of Marshall, Laura Wolverton and her husband, Don of Ubly, David Goniwiecha and his wife, Michelle of Ruth, Karen Cooley of Dearborn, John Gonway and his wife, Leslie of Rochester Hills, Joseph Goniwiecha and his wife, Kim of New Baltimore, Stephen Goniwiecha and his significant other, Lori Paul of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Goniwiecha. Funeral service will be 12 noon Monday, September 26 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-8 pm and Monday from 10:30 am until the service at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
