John "Jack" Matthew Peruski

Mr. John “Jack” Peruski, 81 of Traverse City and formerly of Minden City, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Munson Hospital in Traverse City. He was born on September 20, 1930 in Minden City to the late Peter and Lucy (Osentoski) Peruski. Jack attended Ubly High School and then joined the US Army where he fought heroically on the front lines of the Korean War. Following his military service, He married Jeanette Briolat on June 1, 1957 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville and shared 43 precious years prior to her passing on February 28, 2000. They spent several years in the Detroit area prior to taking over the family farm in Parisville where he farmed for most of his life. He worked for Nestle Milk for ten years and retired from Hercules after ten years. He was a member of the Parisville VFW Post # 5740. He married Shirley (Cook) Fisher on October 23, 2003 in Florida. Jack had a great sense of humor that he loved to share with family and friends. He loved playing cards, going to the casino, watching the Detroit Tigers and tolerating golf. Jack is survived by his wife, Shirley Fisher of Traverse City; nine children, Paul (Terri) of Ubly, Ken (Mary) of Bad Axe, Russ (Kay) of Cass City, Kirt (Deb), Joyce (Doug) Cleland, both of Ubly, Laurie (Steve) Messing, Rick ( Kelly), Jeff (Alysha) all of Minden City, Beth (Jarek) Choike of Williamsburg; step children, Edward (Nancy) Fisher, Terry Gotts, Sherry (Scott) Overholt, Kelly (Tom) Barnes, all of Traverse City; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; one sister, Theresa (Ted) O’Parka of Warren; one brother, Ron (Anna) Peruski of Florida. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Wayne, three sisters, Catherine A. Messing, Jean DeColuwe and Beatrice Walkowski, two brothers, Raymond and Robert. A Celebration of Jack’s life will take place at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 1:30-9 p.m. There will be a St. Mary Men’s Club Rosary on Friday at 7:30 pm and a parish vigil service at 8 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home. A Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by the Parisville VFW Post #5740. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
