Virginia Mae Braun

Mrs. Virginia M. Braun, 82 of Rapson, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at her residence under hospice care. She was born on February 16, 1929 in Harbor Beach to the late Charles and Amelia (Winkel) Plester. She married Leo A. Braun on October 9, 1948 in Detroit. Virginia attended a country school and was a graduate of Harbor Beach High School. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson where she was a member of the St. Rita Altar Society. She also cooked at St. Joseph’s for many years at funeral luncheons. She was a member of the League of Catholic Women, the Tip of the Thumb Square Dance Club, and the Rapson Sportsmen’s Club and Euchre Club. She collected funds for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, baking, and cooking. Virginia is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leo of Rapson; 7 children, Judy M. (Fred) Abeel of Gaylord, Stephen M. (Marilyn) Braun of Port Hope, Laura E. (Brent) Bender of Clio, Jean A. (Leo) Essenmacher of Harbor Beach, Russell L. (Laura) Braun of Shepardsville, Peggy M. (Dan) Buby of Grand Blanc, Paul C. (Julie) Braun of Milford; 34 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and four more on the way; her first great great grandchild is also on the way; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eunice Plester of Harbor Beach, Bob (Ramona) Tschirhart of Port Hope, Lorraine Braun of Harbor Beach, Joe Cardimone of New Jersey, Wilma Braun of Harbor Beach, Earl (Shirley) Braun of Port Hope; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Pat Braun; two sisters, Evelyn Pszczolkowski and her husband, Tony, Lucile Burnette and her husband, Les; her twin brother, Harold Plester; In-laws, Magdelin Tschirhart, Margaret and Carl Swensen, Clarence Braun, Gladys Cardimone, Robert Braun. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Thursday, November 3rd at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. Rev. Robert Howe, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1-9 pm and Thursday from 10-11 am at the church only. There will be a St. Rita Altar Society rosary on Wednesday at 4 pm and a parish vigil service at 7 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to U of M Hospital, Heartland Hospice or Huron County Right to Life.
