George W. Hiller

Mr. George W. Hiller, 95 lifelong resident of Harbor Beach, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family under hospice care. He was born on November 4, 1916 in Grant, MI to the late William and Effie (Lang) Hiller. He married Fannie Zinger on June 14, 1949 in Harbor Beach . She preceded him in death on October 13, 1990. George served in the US Army during WWII in Normandy and the campaign in France. He was a member of the Bad Axe Masons for over 70 years. He worked as a production operator for G.D. Serale before he retired in the late 1970's. George’s true passion was sawing lumber. He also enjoyed hunting deer, deer camp, antique shows and thrashing machines. George is survived by one son, Dale Hiller and his wife, Angeline of Harbor Beach; one step daughter, Beatrice “Pee Wee” Matton and her husband, Floyd of Florida; four grandchildren, April (Mark) Smurda, Crystal Hiller, George (Kristen) Hiller, Barbie (Jan) Hess; three great grandchildren, Alex, Liam and Morella; one step great granddaughter, MacKenzie. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and William, sister Catherine Barker; one brother, Louie Hiller The funeral service will be 11 am, Monday, January 16 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Pastor Dennis Cupery of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Harbor Beach will officiate. Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery in Harbor Beach. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Saturday from 6-9 pm, Sunday from 1-9 pm and Monday from 9-11 am. There will be a service by the Bad Axe Masons at 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
