Genevieve O'Parka

Mrs. Genevieve O’Parka, 95 of Saginaw and formerly of Bad Axe, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Saginaw Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on December 24, 1916 in Harbor Beach to the late Michael and Josephine (Puvalowski) Ulfig. She married Chester O’Parka on June 26, 1937 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2006. Genevieve was a graduate of a country school. She worked in Detroit for a few years and then farmed with her husband and family. She and her husband moved to Bad Axe in 1987. Genevieve was a current parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. She was a former parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. Genevieve enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing, painting wood crafts and word search puzzles. Genevieve is survived by one son, Chester O’Parka Jr. And his wife, Sylvia of Waterford; three grandchildren, Duane O’Parka and his wife, Sherrie of White Lake, Karen St. Souver and her husband, Darren of Saginaw, Debbie O’Parka of Davisburg; 5 great grandchildren, Shelby and Austin St. Souver, Alycia (O’Parka) Jankowski, Christa (O’Parka) Cottrell and Duane O’Parka II; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lemanski and Helen Ulfig, both of Bad Axe; special Yorkie companion, Sophie; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Steve, Edward, Frank and Walter Ulfig; two sister, Florence Susalla and Stella Susalla. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Saturday, March 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Rev. Robert Howe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Parisville. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 2-9 pm and on Saturday from 10-11 am at the church only. There will be a rosary Friday at 3:30 pm by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality and a parish vigil service at 4 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home.
