Mrs. Bernice Klakulak, 79, of Sterling Heights, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 in Sterling Heights under hospice care. Bernice was born on July 7, 1933 in Kinde to the late Steve and Margaret (Horetski) Leavine. She married Joseph Klakulak on August 24, 1957 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin. She was an eighth grade graduate from a country school. While growing up she worked with her family and farmed. She was a former parishioner of St. Michael’s Church in Port Austin. She lived in Hamtramck for three years before moving to Sterling Heights in February of 1968. She was currently a parishioner of St. Blase in Sterling Heights. Bernice enjoyed playing cards, canning, cooking, caring for her flowers and visiting with family. Bernice is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph J. Sr. of Sterling Heights; daughters, Deborah (Gerald) Lickey, Jr, of Beaverton, Diane Klakulak and her sig. other Jerald Gleason of Sterling Heights; son, Joseph Jr.(Mary) Klakulak of Macomb Twp.; one granddaughter, Miss Melinda Klakulak and her boyfriend Angelo Lanni of Macomb Twp.; five sisters, Theresa Nowak of Brighton, Agnes Jimpkowski of Port Austin, Irene Osentowski of Sterling Heights, Eleanor Kalka and her husband Simon of Sterling Heights, and Cecelia Meyers and her husband Peter of Warren. She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. The Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Monday from 2- 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the church only.
