Marilyn Elaine Schneider

Mrs. Marilyn E. Schneider, 73 of Ubly, passed away Wednesday evening, November 21, 2012 at McLaren Bay Regional Hospital in Bay City following a courageous 18 year battle with leukemia. Marilyn was born on April 5, 1939 in Cass City to the late Arlington and Marion (Leishman) Gray. She married Donald Schneider on October 11, 1958 in the Shabbona United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2002. Marilyn was a graduate of Cass City High School and a 1973 graduate of Central Michigan University. She was an elementary school teacher in Sanilac and Huron counties for many years. She retired from Adams School in 1995 after teaching there for 22 years. She was president of the Huron County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) and served on the State Board of Directors. She was a charter member and current secretary of the Ubly Lioness Club. She was also a charter member and current secretary/treasurer of the Ubly Historical Society and a former member of the Huron County Historical Society Board of Directors. Because of her interest in local history, she researched and wrote a history of the Village of Ubly in 1968. Marilyn was co-editor of the Family History Book, published in 2000. In 2001 she compiled the pictures and wrote the captions about Ubly for the Huron County Historical book. She helped compile local history to be published in Celebrating 150 Years of Huron County, Michigan, 1859-2009. Marilyn served as treasurer of the Sleeper Public Library Board of Directors. She was a member of the Ubly Thursday Nite Ladies Bowling League for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, books, crossword puzzles, bowling and traveling. Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Danna Mose of Fort Gratiot, Donna Schrimer and her husband, James of Imlay City; her son, Daniel Schneider and his wife, Laura of Sterling Heights; three grandchildren, Garet and Griffin Schrimer and Caitlin Schneider; one sister, Esther LaMothe and her husband Roger of Jackson; two nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, David Gray in September of 1959. The Memorial service for Marilyn will be 12 noon, Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Pastor Pam Barnett of the Shabbona United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Sunday from 3:00-8:00 pm and Monday from 11 am until the service at 12 noon. Memorials have been requested to the Ubly Lioness Club, Ubly Area Historical Society, Sleeper Public Library or the Family Discretionary Fund.
