Virginia M. Maurer, 89, of Bad Axe passed away Dec.27, 2012. She was under Hospice Care and the Loving Care of the Staff of Home Sweet Home of Pigeon. Virginia was born September 8, 1923 to John and Stella (Smalley) Kubacki of Ubly, Mich. She attended the Tyre School and Ubly High School. On September 8th 1941 she married Ervin Maurer. They lived in Detroit until his deployment into the military, and later moved to Colorado until 1945 when they bought a farm near Verona. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Smith Corners since 1946 and was an active member of the Altar Society for many years. She spent the remainder of her life a mother, homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed bowling, cards, golf, traveling and spending time with the family. Virginia is survived by 3 sons, Dennis (Cathy) Maurer of White Lake MI, Alan (Sharon) Maurer of Bad Axe, and Eric (Evelyn) Maurer of Troy MI; special cousins Dick (Jane) Maurer and family of Ruth MI; six grandchildren Bill (Paula) Maurer of Highland MI, Becky (Bruce) Decker of Cedar Falls Iowa, Keith (Denise Morell) Maurer of Ubly, Chad (Terri) Maurer of Bad Axe, Lindsay Maurer of Covington,KY and Jason Maurer of Birmingham MI; five great grandchildren Jacob and Kylee Maurer of Highland MI, Rachel and Caleb Decker of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Graydon Maurer of Bad Axe; special friends, Kayla Morell and Tyler Morell of Ubly; one sister, Marcy Prazuch of Mt.Clemens, one brother-in-law, Jim Lewis of Bad Axe; seven sisters-in-law, Mary Kubacki and Anna Kubacki, both of Ubly, Lila Maurer of Bad Axe, Blanche Rumptz of Ubly, Leta Duda and Dorthy (Larry) Zurek of Mt. Clemens and Noreen Williamson of Utica; several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin on June 9th 2001, her parents; four brothers; Bernard, Henry, Ray and Albert Kubacki, two sisters Agnes Lewis and Luella Piscorski, one sister-in-law, Della Kubacki, two brothers-in-law, Mike Maurer and Harry Prazuch. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, January 5 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners Rev. Robert Howe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday, January 4 from 1:30-9:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church only. There will be a parish vigil service on Friday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. In Lieu of Flowers the family request donation to Alzheimer’s Association.
