Joan Osantowski

Mrs. Joan Osantowski of Deckerville and formerly of Ubly passed away Thursday morning, January 10, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center. Joan was born on September 6, 1938 in Argyle, MI to the late Bernell and Leone (Rose) Doerr. She married Marcus T. Osantowski on August 13, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1996. Joan attended the Argyle Country School. She was a parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Argyle since 1955. Joan was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at Lyntex Manufacturing in the sewing dept for ten years before she retired. Joan had resided in the Deckerville area for 14 years. She enjoyed cards, darts, gardening, canning, playing Keno and casino trips. Joan is survived by 5 sons, Larry (Christine) of Gagetown, Frank, Jim, Joe (Brenda), Mark (Bobbi), all of Ubly; four daughters, Deborah (Scott) Page of Frederic, MI, Ann Grifka of Grayling, Darlene (Jim) Groth and Kelly (Dale) Groth, both of Ubly; 21 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; special friend, Carl Stringer of Deckerville, Carl’s sons, Kevin (Teresa) Stringer of Deckerville, Chuck (Angie) Stringer of Palms, Dave (Debbie) Stringer of Ubly; siblings, Jim (Judy) Doerr of Cass City, her twin brother, Joe (Barb) Doerr of Argyle, Joyce (Truman) Maxwell of Northville; sisters-in-law, Helen Doerr of Warren, Emilie (Murray) Thompson of Palms, Helen Peters of Ubly; one brother-in-law, Ray (Blanche) Osantowski of Jeddo; good friends, Steve & Penny Nichol of Deckerville; many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by one son, Pat, two brothers, Fred and Dave Doerr Sr., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert & Erma Osantowski, brother-in-law, Emmett Peters, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Mary Osantowski. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Monday, January 14 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Sunday from 2-9 pm and Monday from 10-11 am at the church only. There will be a parish vigil service Sunday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home.
