Catherine "Kate" Vogel

March 20, 1935 — February 18, 2013

Mrs. Norma “Kate” C. Vogel, 77 of Palms, passed away early Monday morning at her residence with her family by her side while under hospice care. She was born on March 20, 1935 in Forester Township to the late John R. and Sarah C. (Hardy) Handley. She married Arthur J. Vogel on May 14, 1955 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Sanilac. Kate was a 1952 graduate of Deckerville High School. She was employed at Yale Rubber form 1952 until 1970. She was a parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms and had been for 58 years. She enjoyed polka dancing, listening to music, cooking and playing cards. Kate Truly enjoyed spending time with her cherished grandchildren. Kate is survived by her husband of 57 years, Arthur J. Vogel of Palms; two sons, Gary and his wife, Linda and Thomas and his wife, Mary, all of Palms,; two daughters, Patricia McConnachie and her husband, Gordon of Palms, Kristine Roggenbuck and her husband, Dean of Ubly; 10 grandchildren, Joshua (Pamela) Vogel, Derrick Vogel, Megan (Michael) Brown, Samuel (Jennifer Mata) Vogel, Justin Marshall, John Wiegert, John (Hilary) McConnachie, Mark (Danielle) McConnachie, Ryche Roggenbuck, Isle Roggenbuck; 10 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Isabella, Sebastian and Jorge Mata Vogel, Arabella Coddington, Kaden Brown, Jacob Holka, Alyssa, Adrian and Alec McConnachie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia Vogel, Lucille (Jerome) Kolar, Jane Vogel & Virgil Shagena, John (Elaine) Vogel, Mary (LaVerne) Shemka, Evelyn (Roger) Stolicker, Lawrence (Florence) Vogel, Elizabeth “Betty” Kubacki, Frank (Nancy) Vogel, Catherine Cleveland, Theresa (Thomas) Kahlo, Carol Osborne, several nieces and nephews. Kate was preceded in death by her one sister, Ellen Bopra and her husband William “Bill”; two brothers, Lee Handley and his wife, Lottie and William “Bill” Handley and his wife, Phyllis; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Christina Ann Vogel, Anthony “Tony” (Ruth) Vogel, Charles Vogel, William Vogel, Eugene Kubacki, and Ralph Osborne. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Wednesday, February 20 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Smigielski Funeral Home on Cass Ave in Minden City on Tuesday from 2-9 pm and Wednesday from 10-11 am at St. Patrick Church only. Memorials have been requested to the Arthritis Foundation or Hospice.
