Mr. Alex J. Particka, 101 of Ubly, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at Meadow Lane Assisted Living in Bad Axe surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 17, 1912 in Filion to the late Frank M. and Anna (Goniwicha) Particka. He married Eleanor Grifka on October 3, 1936 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. She preceded him in death on August 14, 1989. Alex attended the Redmond Country School. He farmed with his family and neighbors. He owned the Louisville Bar from 1946-1950. He then farmed with his wife and children in Austin Township before moving to Ubly in 1965. He was a former parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dwight and St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. He was a current parishioner at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church in Ubly. Alex enjoyed visiting with friends and family and loved to go dancing. Alex is survived by 4 sons, Melvin and his wife, Charlotte of Ubly, Raymond and his wife, Judy of Sterling Heights, Norman and his wife, Janice of Sterling Heights, Leonard and his wife, Kathleen, of Bad Axe; one daughter, Beatrice Franzel and her husband, Norman of Reese; 18 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Taylor, Alice Horetski and Martha Leppek and her husband, Chester; one brother, Frank and his wife, Donna; his special friend, Virginia Kowalski, who is 106. He was preceded in death by on son, John Richard, two grandsons, Martin and Raymond Particka, three brothers, Aloysius, Anthony “Tony” and Florian “Floyd; his in-laws, Theresa & James Taylor, Alex & Olive Grifka, Cass & Margie Grifka, Jack & Kathleen Grifka, Lloyd & Maggie Grifka, Gladys & Irene Grifka. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Monday, August 19 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Sunday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Monday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Sunday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to Hospice Advantage, Meadow Lane Assisted Living or St. John Cemetery Fund.
