John D. Kennedy

Mr. John “Jack” Kennedy, 79 of Ubly, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at his residence. John was born on September 13, 1933 in Decker, MI to the late Donald and Frances (Ksiazkiewicz) Kennedy. He married Donna Brown on December 1, 1957 in Angola, IN. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2002. John was a graduate of Marlette High School. He served in the US Airforce from 1951-1954. After the service, he attended Michigan State University for two years. John was a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was also employed at Marshall Real Estate and Valley Enterprises, both of Marlette for many years. John was one of the original gentlemen who established and built the Ubly Little League field. He was a member of many organizations including the Michigan Sheriff’s Association, the VFW Post 6965 of Ubly, the Rural Letter Carrier Association, the former Masonic Lodge of Ubly, and the former Moose Lodge of Rapson. He was also a former board member for Ubly Community Schools. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling for Tyll’s in Ubly. John loved woodworking and crafts and enjoyed going to various craft shows with his beloved wife, Donna. John is survived by three children, Lana Kennedy of Caro, James Kennedy of Florida, Cammie Rae Hill of Ubly; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Janet Adler and her husband, Edward of Bad Axe; one brother, Rex Kennedy and his wife, Belva, of Ashburn, GA. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Kennedy and one sister, Frances Hudson. The funeral service for John Kennedy will be 7:00 pm Friday, September 13 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Pastor Philip Tousley of the First United Methodist Church in Bad Axe, will officiate. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday, September 13 from 1:00-7:00 pm. Memorials have been requested to Sleeper Public Library.
