Sandra L. Smith, 69 of Calumet, passed away November 20, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on July 12, 1944 in Calumet, MI to the late Ovid S. MacDonald and Bernice E. (Johnston) MacDonald. She married Carl L. Smith in 1967 in Orion, IL. He proceeded her in death on January 8, 1994. Sandra was a graduate Calumet High School. After high school Sandra was a house wife and full time mother who loved scrabble, pinochle and walking. Sandra also enjoyed writing poetry and singing. Sandra is survived by her five children Betsy C. Smith of Howard City, Susan J. Smith and significant other, Al Weber of Minden City, Nancy L. Smith and her husband, David Vidal of Alexandria, VA., Stacy A. Haag and her husband, Jeremy of Sebawaing, and Kathy D. Smith and her fiancé, Kurt Leistico of Norwich, NY. Sandra is also survived by ten grandchildren, Sandra M. Nelson and her husband Steve, Jacob C. Schropp, Danielle E. Schropp, Michael R. Nothelfer, Alex H. Nothelfer, Ethan C. Leistico, Krysta R. Leistico, Matthew C. Haag, Mikayla S. Haag and Marisa J. Vidal; five siblings Jeanne MacDonald, Lawrence (Kay) MacDonald, Ruth Mast, Judy Koivunen, and Peter (Christine) MacDonald; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert MacDonald and two brother-in-laws, Gerald Mast and Nathan Koivunen. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, November 23 at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Burial will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet at a later date. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home on Saturday starting at 2 pm until the time of the service. Memorials have been requested for the Family Discretionary Fund.
