Janet Irene Sweeney

Mrs. Janet I. Sweeney, 69 of Cass City, passed away Monday evening, December 16, 2013 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. She was born on September 27, 1944 in Bad Axe to the late George Sylvester “Lester” and Helen Mae (Hill) Greyerbiehl. She married Edward B. Sweeney on April 7, 1962 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Janet was a loving homemaker and helped on the family farm. She attended the Bad Axe Schools. She was a parishioner at St. Columbkille Church. She enjoyed camping and visiting with friends. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Janet is survived by her husband of 51 years, Edward of Cass City; nine children, Anthony E. Sweeney of Tennessee, Julie A. Hilts and Chuck of North Branch, Terry M. Sweeney and his wife, Colleen of Cass City, Jamie L. Heineman and her husband, Andy of Midland, Todd J. Sweeney and his wife, Paula of North Branch, Troy P. Sweeney and his wife, Laura of Davison, Jeanie L. Martin and her husband, Phil of Cass City, Janel M. Morgan and her husband, Sam of El Paso, TX, Jody H. Bolton and her husband, Dan of Bad Axe; 19 grandchildren, Kelly, Charlie, Danielle, Jerry, Amy, Jennifer, Rebecca, Heather, Hailee, Andrea, Kelcie, Hannah, Olivia, Ava, Thomas, Travis, Jasmine, Jade, Amanda; 5 great grandchildren, Nixon, Brooke, Caylin, Taylor and Gavin; four brothers, Patrick Greyerbiehl and his wife, Vickie of Bad Axe, George Greyerbiehl and his wife, Mary of Bad Axe, Douglas Greyerbiehl and his wife, Tammy of St. Joseph, Paul Greyerbiehl and his wife, Mary of Cass City; six sisters, Shirley Leppek of Fort Wayne, Ind., Nancy Janik and her husband, Henry of Bad Axe, Beverly Greyerbiehl of Bad Axe, Patricia Grigg of Bad Axe, Theresa Provet and her husband, Philip of Coldwater, Brenda Kreh and her husband, Tom of Pigeon. Janet was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Greyerbiehl and infant Thomas Greyerbiehl. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Friday, December 20 at St. Columbkille Church/Good Shepherd Parish in Sheridan Corners. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Friday from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Columbkille Church only. There will be a parish vigil service Thursday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to Huntington’s Disease Research or St. Columbkille Church.
