John "Jack" J. Murray

Mr. John “Jack” Murray, 90 of Ubly passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at his residence. John was born on March 29, 1924 in Ubly to the late Thomas P. and Josephine P. (Maurer) Murray. He married Patricia McCormick on May 5, 1951 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2006. John attended the Bingham Township #1 School and Ubly High School. He helped convert the old Kelly School into the Farmer’s Hall and was a Board Member for the Farmer’s Hall. He was a fourth generation life long farmer and was extremely proud of his heritage. He lived out his days in the house that was built by his great grandfather in the 1880’s. John was a member of the Hilltoppers Farm Bureau. He drummed with numerous local polka and country western bands for many weddings in the area. He was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan. John truly enjoyed reading and keeping up on current events. John was good natured, generous and happy-go-lucky. He kept his quick wit and sense of humor right up to the end. John was always thankful for everything. John is survived by three sons, Greg and his wife, Rosy of San Antonio, TX, Ken and his wife, Kim of Ubly, Shawn of Clarkston, GA; five grandchildren, Lisa Minor and her husband, Jeremy of Santa Cruz, CA, Charlie Williams of Caseville, Nicole (Aaron) Webster of Beaverton, Oregon, Kenny Murray of Grand Haven, Riley Murray of Ubly; one great granddaughter, Azure Webster; two sisters, Phyllis Roggenbuck and her husband, Vincent of Snover, Jean Messing of Juneau, AK; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Murray of Ubly, Doreen Tomlinson of Kinde; one brother-in-law, Steve McCormick and his wife, Jean of Mission, TX; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Harold & Clements Murray; two sisters, Marjorie Abraham and Grace Murray; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Messing and John Abraham; one sister-in-law, Esther Murray. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Most Holy Trinity Church of St. Hubert Parish in Smith Corners, Ubly. Rev. Robert Howe, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1:00-9:00 pm and Thursday morning from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to Most Holy Trinity Cemetery or the Family Discretionary Fund.
