Glen Avon Peters

September 3, 1924 — February 2, 2015

Mr. Glen A. “Sonny” Peters, 90 of Ubly, passed away unexpectedly February 2, 2015 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe. He was born September 3, 1924 in Argyle to the late Benjamin and Ellen (Boag) Peters. He married Lorraine Michalski on October 1, 1949 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Frieburg. Glen was a graduate of the Sand Fly Country School and attended the Marlette High School. He was employed at the Argyle Creamery before enlisting in the US Navy during WWII where he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After returning home he was employed at the Mueller Brass & Ford Motor Rouge Plant. After marrying Lorraine they operated the Austin Center family grocery store. After moving to the farm he also worked at Travco in Brown City for several years. At this time he expanded the dairy and crop farming operation until his retirement in 1989. Glen was a parishioner at St. Ignatius Catholic Church all of his married life where he was an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed horses, hunting, flowers, bird watching and farming. Glen also cherished time spent visiting with family and friends. Glen will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine of Ubly;7 children, Jerry Peters of Cass City, Lesa Mills and her husband, Joseph of Arlington, TX, Kathy Baxter and her husband, Mike of Davisville, MO, Benjamin Peters and his special friend, Lynn Yates of Bad Axe, John Peters and his wife, Patty of Bedford, TX, Richard “Rick” Peters and his wife, Karen of Cass City, Anthony “Tony” Peters of Bad Axe; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Marion Boyer of Perryville, MO.; his extended family and many good friends. He was preceded in death by three children, Debra, Rene and Steven Peters; daughter-in-law Laura Peters; two brothers, Wade Peters and his wife, Iola, Wencil Peters and his wife, Dorenna, three sisters, Erma Peters, Joy Niece and her husband, Perry, Opal Hund and her husband, Francis; one brother-in-law, William Boyer. A memorial Mass will be held for Glen on Saturday, February 7 at 11:00 am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Frieburg. Rev. Todd Arnberg, pastor of St. Isidore Parish in Parisville will officiate. Cremation has taken place and burial will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 am until the mass at 11:00 am. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
