Joann Eileen Stros

Mrs. Joann E. (Briolat) Stros, 72 of Port Hope and formerly of Ubly, passed away Monday morning, March 2, 2015 at McLaren Port Huron Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Joann was born on July 17, 1942 in Bad Axe to the late Clayton and Joann (Champagne) Parrish. She married Ervin Briolat on November 28, 1959 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Pinnebog. They were blessed with 42 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 28, 2001. She married Richard Stros on November 22, 2008 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Joann worked on the family farm while raising their seven children. She also worked for Ubly Community Schools for 20 years. Joann was a former parishioner at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the U & I Club in Port Austin and the Saturday Seniors Dance. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing dominos, dancing and spending time with her family. Joann enjoyed traveling to various states and spending her winters in Florida with Richard. Joann is survived by her husband, Richard of Port Hope; seven children, Gary (Kathy) Briolat of Ubly, Lynn (Rod) Talaski of Decker, Sherry (Steve) Mixter of Howell, Judy (Ben) Booms of Harbor Beach, Kenny (Kelly) Briolat of Jonesburg, MO, Jeff (Shelly) Briolat of Ubly, Dennis (Jan) Briolat of Unionville; step-sons, Larry Stros, Gary Stros, Bill (Sherry) Stros, Rick Stros and his friend, Kelly Ringle; 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy (Eugene) Grifka, Helen (Elmer) Osentoski, Marge (Leonard) Briolat; three brothers, Bill (Michelene) Parrish, Bob (Linda) Parrish, Clayton (Rachel) Parrish. She was preceded in death by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, one step-daughter, Marcy Obrinski. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 7 at St. John Catholic Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 am. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Friday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
