Mr. Emmett A. Grifka, 64 of Cass City, passed way Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his residence. He was born on July 4, 1951 in Cass City to Irene (Polega) Wozniak and the late Martin Grifka. He married Dona M. Hudson on December 13, 1992 in Sandusky. Emmett was a graduate of Ubly High School. He was a US Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He worked road and bridge construction for several Detroit companies. He enjoyed watching and listening to the Detroit Tigers, playing cards, trips to casinos and Alabama, fishing and hunting. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially giving his grandkids rides on his mule. Emmett is survived by his wife, Dona of Cass City; three children, Martin J. Grifka of Alabama, Karrie Knowlton and her husband, Richard of Alabama, John Grifka and his wife, Gwyn of Snover; one step-son, Troy Galloway and his wife, Renate; step-daughter, Terri and Scott Jackson of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren, Britney, Corey, Troy Jr., Joseph, Jeannie, Marha, Shana, Michael, Mia, Richard & Marissa; his mother, Irene Wozniak of Harbor Beach; his mother-in-law, Nora David of Marlette; three brothers, Larry Grifka and his wife, Sherry, Harry Grifka and Gary Grifka, all of Snover; two sisters-in-law, Edwina Hudson of Saginaw, Donella Buniack and her husband Andrew of Snover.; many nieces and nephews. Emmett was preceded in death by his father, Martin; step-father, Pat; three brothers, Dave, Roger and Lee Grifka; an infant sister, Barb; step-son, Timothy Galloway; sister-in-law, Mary Grifka; brother-in-law, Clare Hudson. The funeral service for Emmett will be Thursday, August 20 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly with military honors. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly, will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 2-9 pm and Thursday from 10-11 am. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
