Barbara A. Salowitz

Barbara Ann Salowitz finished her journey on earth on July 9, 2023 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw Michigan after a short illness.

Barbara was born on February 21, 1936 in Croswell, MI, daughter of William and Barbara Petre.  She was adopted by Leo and Agnes (Lemanski) Stepka when she was about 3 years old and was raised in the Argyle/ Ubly area. She attended Freiburg Elementary School and graduated from Ubly High School in 1954. She married Mark Salowitz on May 5, 1956. Together they raised a family of 4 boys and 1 girl.

Barbara worked at Dott Manufacturing in Deckerville for a number of years and retired from there in 2002. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, and visiting the Senior Center in Bad Axe.

She is survived by her children,  Rev. Paul Salowitz (Jan), Alan (Kathy) Salowitz, Timothy Salowitz, Christopher Salowitz, and Julieann (Jeff Gill) Salowitz; four grandchildren, Sean Salowitz, Stephen Salowitz, Cheyenne (Ben) Rix and Kelly (Cameron) Cedroni; six great grandsons, two sisters-in-law, Alice Jane Salowitz and Patricia Stepka; several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Mark; brother, Albert; parents, Leo and Agnes Stepka, in-laws Crescent and Ila Salowitz, Titus and Gertrude Salowitz, Joann (Jim) Blackwood, Dorothy (Dick) Trainor and Wilfred Salowitz.

Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, July 15 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. Rev. Nate Harburg, pastor, will officiate. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Mark, in St. Ignatius Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 6:00-9:00 pm and on Saturday at St. Joseph Church from 10:00-10:45 am.
