Mr. Donald J. Vatter, 83 of Ubly, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at United Hospice in Marlette.
He was born on October 6, 1937 at home to the late Robert and Margaret (Rumptz) Vatter. He married Marcella Gatz on August 17, 1957 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg.
Don attended and graduated from the Ubly Community Schools. He worked for 33 years at Cass City Oil and Gas as a truck driver. He loved to play euchre at family gatherings. Don enjoyed walking in the woods, helping out at Joe’s Smokin Recipe and watching the Detroit Lions and Tigers.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Marcella Vatter of Ubly; two sons, Joseph (Ann) (Thane) Vatter of Ubly, Michael (Jolene)(Weiner) Vatter of St. Joe; one daughter-in-law, Jill (Field) Vatter of Lansing; grandchildren, James Vatter of Lansing, John (Sarah)(Jenson) Vatter of Lansing, Rhea (Michael) Merriman of Snover, Zachary Vatter of Houghton, Reese Vatter of Saranac; great grandchildren, Grace Merriman of Snover, Bobby Vatter of Lansing, Olivia Merriman of Snover; his loving pooch, Pepsi of Ubly; sibling, Janice Pudelko of Maryland; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Vatter; one daughter, Debbie Vatter; two brothers, Jerry and Harold Vatter; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Margaret (Lorentz) Gatz.
The memorial Mass for Don will be 11:00 am, Saturday, April 17 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Freiburg. Rev. Nate Harburg and Fr. Bill Lugger will officiate. Visitation will be at church from 10:00-10:45 am before the Mass.
