Mrs. Evelyn E. Coaster, 94 of Gagetown and formerly of Ubly, passed away Monday morning, September 24, 2018 at the Willow Tree Haven Retirement Home in Gagetown.
She was born on August 27, 1924 in Bryan, Ohio to the late Guy and Lettie (Delano) Williams. She married Francis Coaster on February 16, 1946 at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in Berkley. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2004.
Evelyn graduated from Farmer High School in Defiance, Ohio. She was a Rosie the Riveter during the war in Detroit and received an accommodation from the federal government for her service. She also worked for an insurance company for a few years. She lived in various places in Michigan for a few years before moving with Francis to Ubly in 1952. Evelyn was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly since 1952, where she was a member of the St. John Christian Mothers. She loved traveling with Francis all over the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska, and the Bahamas, and taking trips with Parrot Tours. She also enjoyed bowling and playing euchre. She was the last surviving member of the Benjamin and Agnes Coaster family.
Evelyn’s family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to Connie, Beth Ann and the staff of Willow Tree Haven Retirement Home for their compassion and kindness while Evelyn resided there.
Evelyn is survived by two sons, William (Ella) Coaster of Central Lake, MI, Richard (Sherrie) Coaster of Port Sanilac; one daughter, Christine (Terry) Lehman of Bloomfield Hills; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded by 3 siblings, Fern, Gladys and Edwin; her Coaster family in-laws, James and Theresa Kavanaugh, Mary and Oliver Goetze, John and Rita Coaster, Benjamin and Gladys Coaster, Martin and Alice Coaster.
Mass of Christian burial for Evelyn will be 12 noon, Thursday, September 27 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday at St. John Catholic Church from 10:00-11:45 am.
Care has been entrusted to the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.
Memorials have been requested to the Sleeper Public Library.
