Harry Lynn Bensinger

March 26, 1948 — September 5, 2020

Mr. Harry L. Bensinger, 72 of Bad Axe, passed away Sattuday, September 5, 2020 at his residence while under hospice care.

 

            He was born March 26, 1948 in Bad Axe to the late Thurman (Bruce) and Onnalee (Rapson) Bensinger, He married Linda Packer on February 14, 1986 at Ft. Hood, Texas.

 

            Harry graduated from Ubly High School. He enlisted in the US Army and was deployed to Vietnam having done two tours of duty. Harry was a decorated veteran. He earned the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal (First Leaf Oak Cluster), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Vietnam Service Medal and Expert Badge (Rifle and Pistol). Harry was also member of the VFW Post #116 of Bad Axe.

 

            Harry retired from Tandom Transport after receiving his Million Miler award for driving over one million miles accident free. He then worked at Paul Bunyan Saw Mill to keep himself busy. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ubly where he served as an elder. Harry enjoyed going to tractor shows and looking at all the antique tractors. He also loved having the family over for holidays and cookouts.

 

            Harry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Bensinger of Bad Axe; three daughters, Christina (Christopher) Taylor of Bad Axe, Tammy Farley (Kenny Franzel) of Gagetown, Sarah (Dean) Murray of Bad Axe; three sons, Jason (April) Bensinger of Parsons, West Virginia, Allison Bensinger of the Detroit area, Cory Bensinger Burkhard of Fraser; fifteen grandchildren, Ashley (Brian) Kramer, Jennifer Steinke, Brandon Steinke (friend, Mark Ammend, Tyler Franzel, Connor Dean, Katelynn Bensinger, Braydon Farley, Gavin and William Franzel, Maria Bensinger, Curtlan Bensinger, Alexis Burkhard, Bentley Yarbrough, Dean Jr. and Anastasia Murray; three great grandchildren, Juliana and Ian Kramer, TayLynn Gonzales; three sisters, Diana (Carol) Bensinger of Deckerville, Lori (Allen) McLeod of Bad Axe, Dess (Tammy) Adams of Deckerville; one brother, David of North Branch; nieces and nephews.

 

            Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Onnalee, sister, Sherry, a niece and nephew.

 

            The funeral service for Harry will be Tuesday, September 8 at 1:00 pm at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly with military honors following the service by the Bad Axe VFW Post #116. Pastor Mark Melillo of the First Presbyterian Church of Ubly will officiate. Harry’s burial will be private. Visitation will be a the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:30 am until the service at 1:00 pm.
