James D. Flannery

James Donald Flannery, age 76, of Holly (formerly of Ubly) passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022 at his home, under hospice care. He was born on June 11, 1945 in Bad Axe to the late Martin and Vernetta (Peters) Flannery. 

He lived on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army. After being discharged, he married Donna Conat on December 18, 1970 at St. Raymond's Catholic Church in Detroit.  He was widowed seven years later.

Jim worked in construction until his retirement in 2006 . Jim enjoyed hunting, spending time at the family farm, and watching the Tigers and the Lions. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and especially his two beloved grandchildren.  Jim, the appointed mayor of the neighborhood, enjoyed, in his younger years, hosting neighborhood parties and pig roasts. He coordinated the mowing and maintenance of his and his neighbors' lawns and much to the chagrin of the road commission, maintained his ditches to his specifications. Jim loved to socialize and made friends wherever he went, including stopping in Nebraska and spending hours talking to a farmer about his irrigation system. 

Jim is survived by Roxanne (LaMontaine), children: Rebecca Flannery of Charleston, South Carolina, and Denise Flannery (Dale Frank) of Lansing, grandchildren: Abby and Alex Frank., step-son: Jason LaMontaine, siblings: Celestine (Ralph) Mungle and Bernice (Andy) Bleeda and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold (Cynthia) Flannery.

Funeral services will be at St. Rita Catholic Church in Holly on Tuesday, January 18 at noon. 

Visitation will be Monday, January 17, from 3pm-9pm at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly, with the Rosary at 4pm.
