Lila Helen Maurer

Mrs. Lila Helen Maurer, 93 of Ubly, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a long illness.

            She was born on July 5, `925 in Ubly, MI to the late James C. and Amelia M. (Decker) Walker. She married Linus “Mike” Maurer on August 30, 1944 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on July 19, 2002.

            Lila was a graduate of Cass City High School. She worked for Hubbard Bank, Community Bank and First National Bank in Bad Axe. She was the first retiree of First National Bank in 1988. Lila was a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly and was a member of the Christian Mothers. Lila loved to bowl and was a former member of Stingers for Zingers bowling team and the Whitey’s Tuesday Night Bowling League. She enjoyed dancing, baking, golfing, traveling and spending time with family and friends,

            Lila’s family wishes to extend their appreciation for all of the fantastic care given to Lila from the staff of Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe.

            Lila is survived by thee daughters, Lana (Gregory) Gordon of Port Austin, Elaine Lansing of Chandler, AZ, Lois (Marvin) Hill of Ruth; 5 grandchildren, Brandy Gordon and her special friend, Jeremy Polega of Port Austin, Courtney (Ryan) Smith of Fairhaven, MI, Erin (Joshua) Zimmerman of Port Austin, Adam (April) Hill of Waterford, Andrea (Brett) Mosher of Ruth; 8 great grandchildren, Mason Pechette Landen Merguez, Piper Smith, Jack Zimmerman and Riley Zimmerman, Lauren, Marina and Sophia Hill; sisters-in-law, Norine Williamson of Sterling Heights, Leta Duda of Mt. Clemens, Dorothy Zurek of Mt. Clemens.

            She as preceded in death by one daughter, Joanne Marie Maurer; great grandchild, Skylar Smith; siblings, Gertrude (John) Garety, Luella (Merlin) Valley, Edanna (David) Sweeney, Elizabeth “Betty” (Marsh) Sparling, Blanche (John) Krug, Marion (Bill) McQueen; in-laws, Ervin (Virginia) Maurer, Blanche (Archie) Rumptz,  Leo Maurer, Helen Maurer, Veronica “Verna” Maurer, Edward Williamson, George Duda and Lawrence “Larry” Zurek.

            Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Friday, December 28 at St. John Catholic church, Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

            Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 1:30-8:00 pm and Friday at St. John Church from 10:00-11:00 am. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm and a parish vigil service at 7:00 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home.
