Marcella Ann Vatter

Mrs. Marcella A. Vatter, 80 of Ubly passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at home on “The Farm”.

            She was born on August 3, 1940 at home to the later Paul and Margaret (Shagena) Gatz. She married Donald Vatter on August 17, 1957 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. They were married for 63 years. Marcella and Donald had a wonderful life together on “The Farm” that had been in Marcella’s family for over 100 years.

            Marcella attended Ubly Community Schools. She worked at Cass City Public Community Schools and was lovingly referred to as the “Lunch Lady”. She taught religious education at both St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City and St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg for many years. Marcella loved to have family gatherings and enjoyed walking in the woods with her faithful companion, Pepsi.

            Marcella is survived by two sons, Joseph (Ann) (Thane) Vatter of Ubly, Michael (Jolene)(Weiner) Vatter of St. Joe; one daughter-in-law, Jill (Field) Vatter of Lansing; grandchildren, James Vatter of Lansing, John (Sarah)(Jenson) Vatter of Lansing, Rhea (Michael) Merriman of Snover, Zachary Vatter of Houghton, Reese Vatter of Saranac; great grandchildren, Grace Merriman of Snover, Bobby Vatter of Lansing, Olivia Merriman of Snover; her loving pooch and faithful companion, Pepsi of Ubly.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Paul and Margaret (Shagena) Gatz; one son, Robert Vatter; one daughter, Debbie Vatter; one brother, Peter Gatz; two brothers-in-law, Jerry and Harold Vatter; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Margaret Vatter.

            The memorial Mass for Marcella will be 11:00 am, Saturday, June 5 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Freiburg. Rev. Nate Harburg and Fr. Bill Lugger will officiate. Visitation will be at church from 10:00-10:45 am.
