Shirley A. Galarno

Shirley A. Galarno, 71 of Ubly, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after bravely battling a long illness.

She was born on July 27, 1951 in Bad Axe to the late Casmer and Eleanor (Wisbiski) Leavine.

Shirley attended Ubly High School.  She lived in Metamora, MI and Pennsylvania. She then traveled the country extensively with her then husband and two eldest children seeing the sights before settling in the Ubly area.  She was a homemaker who loved baking, cooking and being outdoors. Later in life she enjoyed hunting and fishing. To the envy of many lifelong hunters, she bagged a 10 point buck moments into her first ever deer hunt. She loved animals, and raised horses, and had many well loved dogs over the years. Shirley's pride and joy was her only grandchild Landen.

Shirley is survived by her children, Dallas Galarno and his wife, Michelle of Clio, Jody Cash and her husband, Tim of Palm Beach, FL, Justin Galarno of Caseville; grandson, Landen Galarno; one brother, Larry Leavine and his wife, Cathy of Ubly; sister, Diane Spencer and her husband, Paul.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Jakubiec, and Rosemary Leavine; and two brothers-in-law, Tony Jakubiec, and Ralph Muter.

The funeral service for Shirley will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 19 at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. She will be laid to rest with her parents in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Ubly.

Visitation will be Friday, May 19 from 11:00 am until the service at 2:00 pm.
