Mrs. Shirley Mae Kroetsch, 93 of Snover passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the Sanilac County Medical Care Facility in Sandusky.
She was born on May 12, 1927 in Kinde to the late William S. and Hilda (Hunt) Gilbirds. She married Willard Kroetsch on August 22, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Argyle.
Shirley was a graduate of a country school. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching degree. She taught at several local country schools as well as in Deckerville and Sandusky schools. During Shirley’s time in Florida, she taught at schools there before retiring in 1989. When in Florida for the winters, Shirley resided in Floral City until 2013. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, canning, cooking and loved her Pillsbury collection. Shirley cherished time spent visiting with her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Willard of Snover; children, DeAnn Blank of Snover, Marie (Michael) Stock of Rives Junction, MI, Charles Kroetsch of Snover, William (Janet) Kroetsch of Decker; granddaughter, Jennifer Anderson of Tampa, FL; 3 step grandchildren, Jeremy and Adam Helton, Gary Grates; former daughter-in-law, Donna Lacey of Venice Beach, CA.
She was preceded in death by one grandson, David Kroetsch; one sister, Mildred Gilbirds; one brother, Keith Gilbirds.
The funeral service for Shirley will be 2:00 pm, Friday, September 25 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Rev. Nate Harburg, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish will officiate. Shirley’s final resting place with be in the St. Joseph/St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Freiburg.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 11:00 am until the service at 2:00 pm.
