Susan Elizabeth Bratland

Mrs. Susan “Sue” E. Bratland, 66 of Ubly, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 at McLaren Hospital in Port Huron.

            She was born on February 25, 1955 in Stoughton, WI to the late Tennard Jerome and Ruby Clarice (Dorman) Knudtson. She married Willard “Bill” Bratland on October 10, 1973 in Norfolk, VA. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2017.

            As a child, Sue attended a one room schoolhouse in LaFallate and then attended high school in DeForest throughout her teen years. She was a CNA until she became disabled in 1990. She enjoyed visiting with friends, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren.

            Sue is survived by her children, Jason M. Bratland and Chad A. (Charity) Bratland, both of Ubly, Patricia A. Swanson of New Carlisle, IN; 6 grandchildren, Cody (Jazmen) Thorp of Lake, MI, Chelsea Friday, Chrysta (Noah) Kessler, Colin Friday, all of Bad Axe, Logan and Savannah Swanson of New Carlisle, IN; three brothers, Charles, Keith (Judy) and Warren (Mary, all of WI; several nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Bratland Friday; her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Melvin and Florence Bratland; brothers, David, Gerald, Dean, Larry, Jerry and Neil; sisters, Wendy Allen and Joyce Benisch; brothers-in-law, Melvin Bratland Jr. and Edward Allen.

            The funeral service for Sue will be 3:30 pm Saturday, May 1 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Pastor Phil Tousley of the First United Methodist Church of Bad Axe and Ubly will officiate. Burial will be in the Valley Cemetery.

            Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00-3:30 pm.
