Victor "Vic" Hernalsteen

Mr. Victor “Vic” Hernalsteen, 97 of Ubly, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 at home due to natural causes. He was born on October 5, 1925 in Detroit to the late Frank and Maria (Roelant) Hernalsteen. He married Mary Pistole on November 11, 1971 in Mount Clements. She preceded him in death on April 8, 2017. Victor was a proud veteran, having served in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He enjoyed spending time with his family, many times playing euchre with them. He also took pride in his woodworking abilities and was a steadfast fan of the Detroit Tigers. Victor is survived by his sons Ryan Hernalsteen of Traverse City and Scott Hernalsteen of Shelby Township; daughters Cyndi Hernalsteen of Bad Axe and Denise Goodier of Ubly; as well as nineteen grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons Gene, Jay, and Mark Hernalsteen. The funeral service for Victor will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, October 28 at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Jimmy Bagwell, minister at Bad Axe Church of Christ will officiate. Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorials have been requested to Victor’s family, care of his daughter, Denise Goodier.
